big wishes

It's been four years since Barack Obama has been President of the United States. Gradually the sun became brighter, but global warming is an issue of the past. Grass is greener everywhere and not just on the other side. I take a breath of oxygen that is not polluted with toxins. He has made change. He has made peace. 'The world is a better place' is not just a cliche anymore. It truly is. My black, Latino, and Asian brothers and sisters joined hands in Washington just a few months ago. My gay brothers and sisters are free from their shackles. Discrimination is unacceptable even under the radar. War is gone and schools are provided with adequate funding. I do not fear the ghetto. I do not fear my own policeman. I wear my flag lapel now.

violence

i've mean meaning to do this post for a while.

i've been getting pretty tired of the recent extreme glorification of violence in movies. now, don't get me wrong, i appreciate action. i appreciate truth, which, in the case of a gangster/jail/batman movie, would include some violence. guns, deaths, fighting, all the good shit. if a character fits the part, then so be it. if the movie is good, smart, and classy, so be it.

i've been seeing a lot of movies this summer. including the box office hits WANTED, PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, and TROPIC THUNDER. in these movies, the main characters begin as naive, violent-less, "normal" folk. by the end of the movie, they have no guilt or shame in shooting as many people in their way as possible. i realize Pineapple and Tropic were comedies, but i believe the complaint still holds strong. these movies imply that even if you have no history of violence, if you are put in a threatening situation and given a weapon, you will kill not only without question but have fun doing so. the characters have no remorse or consequences for their actions, and after the big fight scenes go on about with their previous activities almost as if nothing has happened. i'm no hippie but this is seriously getting annoying.

flake

i'm getting really sick of my flakey friends. i'm getting really sick of hearing "but it's just the way i am". the fuck it is. last time i checked flakey isn't a gene. i would say i'm a pretty chill person. i rarely ever even get mad at my friends when they pull shit. but as the saying goes it's getting pretty OLD. most of the time i enjoy just hanging around my house, having alone time, etc. but what i hate is waiting around on a friday night to fucking do something and getting really god damn bored. waiting waiting waiting. waiting is so much different than hanging around, even though they both entail you doing similar activities. while waiting, i am fully dressed, not eating or starting a movie. sitting there. flipping through the channels. getting more pissed off by the second.

burnin up

sometimes i think about humanity like in the way i think about the jonas brothers.

see, there's 3 different types of people:
(1; joe) seemingly perfect. attractive, charming. then you discover there is nothing underneath the facade, no real talent or meaning helpful to my existence.
(2; kevin) ugly. don't even consider because we're all so fucking superficial. actually probably the nicest, coolest of them all.
(3; nick) cute, but never give them a second look. down the road we discover they are talented, intelligent. lives under the radar.

if asked, most would probably consider themselves to be option #3, "nick". that is because we enjoy seeing ourselves as surprises, the other team's secret weapon (if you will). come out of nowhere and audiences are thrilled. it's even more exciting than just being awesome all along.

the olympics

it seems, at first, that the olympics should be like the epitome of sports; every male's wet dream. but it doesn't really seem to work out that way. actually, the olympics are kinda queer if you really think about it. the whole point of sports is sitting around, drinking beer with your buds, shouting at your college alma mater or hometown's team. but with the olympics you're rooting for...america? patriotism makes me feel like an asshole. girls drool over michael phelps and watch beach volleyball all day. that's not sports. that's pansy stuff. i don't get the olympics, but really i don't care either. it's kind of like a watered-down fabrication of "sports". more for show.
